Head of State His Excellency Dr William Samoei Ruto has today broken silence with an afternoon powerful statement targeting all universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institutions (TVET).
Addressing via a statement dated today the 15tb day of December 2023, Head of State His Excellency Dr William Samoei Ruto has announced that the Government will no longer be releasing funds to Universities and TVETs in the newly institutionalized tertiary education funding model.
The Head of State has intimated that the Government will rather be giving funds to students in the form of scholarships in a strategic move fostered towards bringing uniformity in the acquisition of tertiary education.
The president has intimated that university and TVET students drawn from poor family backgrounds will get 100 per cent scholarship while those from wealthy family backgrounds while get 20 per cent scholarship.
“We have agreed that university and TVET students drawn from vulnerable families will get 100 per cent scholarship. We will no longer be giving funds to Universities. We will be giving the funds to students inform of scholarships. So that the child of William Ruto will get 20 per cent scholarship and that of mama Mboga gets 100 per cent scholarship so that we can put uniformity in the acquisition of tertiary education,” President Ruto stated.
