Health authorities have finally identified the cause of the mysterious disease that has gripped Kisii County for weeks, leaving dozens hospitalised with severe symptoms.

The government has now confirmed that water contamination is to blame for the outbreak, which has sparked panic among residents.Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni has revealed that laboratory tests traced the illness to a community well contaminated with faecal matter.

This contamination has led to the spread of infections, causing symptoms such as fever, diarrhoea, stomach pain, and extreme fatigue.

As the disease continues to spread, overwhelmed health facilities are struggling to accommodate the growing number of patients.

Among them is a three-year-old child and her mother, both battling severe diarrhoea and dehydration.

Local health officials have been working around the clock to assist those affected.

In response to the crisis, the Ministry of Health has dispatched a team of experts to affected villages, including Amarongo, to assess water sources and prevent further contamination.

Residents have been urged to avoid using untreated water and to follow hygiene precautions as authorities work to contain the outbreak.

The government has assured the public that swift measures are being taken to purify water sources and prevent future outbreaks, as health officials continue to monitor and manage the situation.
