According to available sources of news, the government of his Excellency President William Ruto through the Education Principal Secretary (PS) Belio Kipsang has announced that schools will officially reopen next week on January 6, 2025. This was revealed during a media briefing held at the Coast Regional Commissioner’s office in Mombasa.

According to the PS, 85% of junior secondary schools have already received textbooks for Grade 9. Dr. Kipsang assured the public that the remaining schools, which had not received their books due to teachers being away from duty, will have them delivered before the opening date. A total of 9.9 million textbooks have been printed for Grade 9, marking a significant step in ensuring students are well-equipped for the new academic year.

This announcement has provided clarity for parents, students, and schools preparing for the new term. However, uncertainty remains over the release of the 2024 KCSE results. Traditionally, the results are announced before the festive season in December, allowing families to celebrate the outcomes during the holidays.

This year, however, there has been an unusual delay, sparking speculation among stakeholders. Though no official explanation has been provided, there are rumors that the results may be released in the next two weeks. The delay has left many candidates and their families anxious as they await this crucial milestone.

The Ministry of Education remains tight-lipped on the matter, raising questions about whether logistical challenges, technical issues, or other unforeseen circumstances may have caused the postponement.

As schools prepare for reopening, attention is divided between ensuring a smooth start to the academic year and awaiting the KCSE results. The government has reassured the public of their commitment to addressing both concerns promptly.
