Nyeri County Governor Mutahi Kahiga has openly criticized Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, accusing him of neglecting the Mount Kenya region and failing to unite its leaders. Governor Kahiga expressed his concerns during a public event, highlighting that since his appointment, Deputy President Kindiki has not visited his home area, leading to feelings of abandonment among local leaders and residents.

Governor Kahiga emphasized that leadership should begin at home, questioning how Deputy President Kindiki can aim to unite the entire country without first addressing unity within his own region. He urged the Deputy President to overcome any fears and engage directly with the Mount Kenya community to foster unity and address local concerns.

Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki echoed these sentiments, expressing disappointment over the lack of tangible development in Tharaka Nithi County, despite it being Deputy President Kindiki’s home area. Governor Njuki acknowledged the pride of having a Deputy President from their region but stressed that this pride must be accompanied by actual development and fulfillment of campaign promises.

These criticisms highlight growing tensions within the Mount Kenya leadership, with local leaders feeling sidelined and urging Deputy President Kindiki to balance his national duties with the needs of his home region. They call for a more proactive approach from the Deputy President in engaging with and addressing the specific concerns of the Mount Kenya community.

In response to these concerns, Deputy President Kindiki has maintained that his primary focus is on uniting all Kenyans and advancing the government’s development agenda across the country. During a recent visit to Embu, he emphasized his commitment to national unity and dismissed critics who accuse him of neglecting his home region. He stated that the government’s efforts are aimed at benefiting all regions and that development projects will be implemented equitably.
