Once again, the administration has declined to press charges against renowned minister Ezekiel Odero.
On Thursday, May 4, the prosecution asked the Shanzu Law Courts to grant them an additional 30 days to hold the televangelist while their investigations went on.
The government notified the court that new information surrounding the killings of the Shakahola people had modified the case against Pastor Ezekiel.
The prosecution claims that the fresh information supported its requests for the troubled pastor’s continued imprisonment.
The Shakahola deaths were the subject of a recent autopsy, which found that several of the victims—mostly children—died from strangling. This information was used by the state prosecution.
However, The State has acknowledged that the police were informed about deaths that occurred at Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s New Life Prayer Centre Church in Mavueni, Kilifi county.
Despite the fact that these deaths were reported, the prosecution contends that there was no reason to believe there was a problem or a crime involved in the deaths.
The State’s admission is consistent with the claims made by Pastor Ezekiel’s attorneys, Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta, who claimed that 15 deaths had occurred at the church and that each one had been legally reported to the police.
At 10 am, the preacher was brought before the judge.According to Joe Omido, the prosecution may present their new application verbally and be supported by affidavits.
He claimed that the defense attorney’s challenge was ineffective since the May 2 instructions were unambiguous.
Pastor Pius Muiru, an evangelist, defended Reverend Ezekiel Odero.
Speaking to the media, Muiru asserted that Ezekiel is connected to fraud, kidnapping, and crimes against humanity; however, his colleagues are hopeful that the accusations will be treated fairly.
Because the crime being investigated is serious, the Director of Criminal Investigation filed an affidavit asking the court to deny Odero bail. His defense team wants him released and maintains that he is innocent.
