On Thursday morning, KDF forces in conjunction with Anti stock theft unit (ASTU) led an operation in Baringo county where they bombed one of the bandits hideouts. According to loclas, the sound of explosions started at dawn with military choppers surrounding the area.

The Kenyan government has deployed a range of heavy equipment, including armoured personnel carriers (APCs) and general-purpose machine guns, to combat bandits in the country’s North.

The military has used helicopters to bomb bandit hideouts, and officers on land have used APCs to suppress gunfire while zeroing in on caves. Bandits are believed to be hiding in caves and valleys and the government forces are working day in day out to flash them out.

Additional soldiers and artillery have also been sent to the affected regions. Local residents have however, expressed concern about a possible bombardment, as military helicopters were spotted over bandit-infested hills. This is after KDF bombed several caves on Thursday, March 16, 2023 morning.

The deployment of state-of-the-art equipment is part of the second phase of the security operation in six counties, aimed at combating crime and restoring peace.
