Today in the afternoon, reports have emerged that the government of Kenya has announced shs 20,000 fine or a jail of six months on any household who will be found living without three different dustbins.
As reported by the Kenyans.co.ke, this announcment was made by James Odongo, Chief Administrative Officer of Kenya Extended Producer Responsibility Organization (KEPRO). Odongo while announcing these penalties said that the three dustbins will be used to separate dry waste, organic waste and hazardous waste for recycling.
“According to the Act, Kenyans who will not follow the regulations commit an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding Ksh20,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or both. Speaking during an interview at TV 47 today on Tuesday, James Odongo, Chief Administrative Officer at KEPRO revealed that the Act had been necessitated by a change in the country’s economic model.” Reads part of the report.
