President William Ruto’s son, George Kimutai Ruto, has been trending on social media partly due to claims about his multimillion-shilling luxury car fleet though some viral images have been debunked as AI-generated.

Contrary to rumours that George acquired an ultra-expensive Lexus LX 800 H worth around KSh 100 million, TUKO.co.ke confirmed that the photo circulating online was digitally manipulated. However, the article does list several vehicles and modified matatus that reflect his interests and investments.

Among the rides George is publicly known to own is a Mercedes G Wagon a luxury SUV reputed to cost in the region of KSh 30 million which he has been seen driving around Nairobi. More notably, he has invested heavily in Kenya’s matatu industry, owning customised public service vehicles that have become almost celebrity attractions in their own right.

His most famous matatu, Mood, is a 25-seater valued at about KSh 14 million and fitted with extravagant features such as solar-powered systems, 65-inch TVs, LED lights, a DJ booth and custom bucket seats that transform the commute into an entertainment experience. The number plate “MOOD” alone is reportedly worth KSh 1 million.

George’s fleet also includes MoneyFest, another high-profile modified matatu known for its bold graffiti and heavy sound system, as well as Matrix, purchased at an estimated KSh 8.7 million. These vehicles have sparked conversation about blending business savvy with lifestyle branding, even as some online commentary pushes back against the display of luxury by political families in a country where many struggle with everyday costs. Overall, while not all viral claims about his fleet hold up, George Ruto’s cars and matatus are undeniably part of a high-end image that continues to draw attention.
