As we mark a happy international women’s day, gender equality today for a better tomorrow is the applicable theme to accompany such a day where women commemorate their struggles and achievements accomplished.
As much as we say a narrative such as gender equality is a thing of the past, it is evident to say that as a country, we are struggling with this sensitive motion leave alone hunger.
From a recent incident that happened along forest road where a young lady was sexually assaulted by a couple of male boda boda riders after an alleged altercation with one of them.
Such a scenario, among others, should be a wake-up call for citizens to own up such unfortunate incidences and work hand in hand with the respective authorities to formulate new laws that protect the rights of people especially ladies.
In reference to the Boda Boda incident, Kenyans on Twitter condemned all those involved stating that the victim is a “Mom, a wife, a sister or a daughter to someone.”, which shows that Kenyans only relate to a story if the affected is either a relative or related in any way which is quite alarming as we are all humans, either a victim or not.
This campaign about gender equality, especially in Kenya, should serve as a notice to the government where new laws should be implemented to safe guard the safety of not only ladies but also men in pursuit for the sake of a healthier nation.
