Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance camp against destroying Kenyans’ property during their planned protests tomorrow, Wednesday July 12.
The Azimio boss Raila Odinga has called upon Kenyans to turn up in large number in their respective counties to protests against President William Ruto’s decision to sign in to law the Finance Bill 2023 which they termed as oppressive to citizens already struggling to put food on the table.
In his remarks, Raila has remained bold that the coalition will not be intimidated by police move to teargas them or use live bullets, arguing that they will stage the demos until their voices are heard.
Speaking in Embakasi on Tuesday after accompanying President Ruto during the issuance of title deeds to the shareholders of the ranking company, Gachagua urged police to step up and ensure that Azimio protestors do not destroy people’s property.
“The same people who were against Ruto’s presidential bid are the same people now financing the Azimio protests aimed at causing chaos in the country. I want to tell them that they will not succeed.”
“The president and the police will not allow anyone to disrupt peace and destroy other people’s property. Police officers should apply the law and apprehend offenders irrespective of their social status. If you cause chaos tomorrow, you will be arrested and arraigned in court.”
At the same time, Raila has remained bold on his move to collect at least 10 million signatures aimed at ousting President Ruto from office, further launching a website where Kenyans can append their signatures, alongside the manual forms.
Despite lawyers and political experts terming Raila’s move as an exercise in futility, Raila and his team are determined to get the signatures.
