Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has revealed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua played a significant role in the Occupy Parliament protests on June 25, 2024.

Speaking in an interview on NTV, Duale claimed that Gachagua sponsored goons who infiltrated the peaceful demonstrations led by Gen Z protesters, ultimately leading to the invasion of Parliament.

Duale, who was the Defence Cabinet Secretary at the time, further accused Gachagua of orchestrating a plot to overthrow the government.

“When my good friend Riggy G praises Gen Zs, he is the same guy who brought goons who wanted to burn Parliament, the Supreme Court, and Harambee House.

Those three buildings are the core symbols of government power. Riggy G brought the goons,” he asserted.

Additionally, Duale alleged that Gachagua was aware of a National Intelligence Service (NIS) report linking him to the protests, yet he still held a press conference in Mombasa.

When questioned on why no one has been held accountable for what he termed an attempted coup, Duale defended the slow pace of investigations, citing past cases like the Dusit, Westgate, and Garissa University terror attacks, which took years to prosecute.

These revelations have intensified scrutiny on Gachagua, who was impeached last October, raising further questions about his political future and legal standing.

Investigations into his alleged involvement are ongoing as the government seeks concrete evidence before taking action.
