On Friday 16th, the deputy president joined other leaders for an event at Naivasha in Nakuru county. Area governor, Susan Kihika, and PS Charles Hinga were among the senior leaders accompanying the DP.
Gachagua had gone to Naivasha to close the Kenya Urban Forum. It was a progressive forum which brought together stakeholders in the urbanization sector for a conversation on how Kenya can achieve this reality.
When making his speech, the deputy president disclosed that the government of Kenya had received good news from Washington in the USA. According to Gachagua, the world bank had volunteered to gift Kenya over Ksh 45 billion which will go a long way in upgrading 47 municipalities in 45 counties.
The money will also be used to upgrade the two big refugee camps in Kakuma and Dadaab. The projects will go concurrently with the government’s programme of affordable housing.
The deputy president also hit out on the opposition for opposing the affordable housing project. He argued that it is very unfortunate that while the rest of the world is appreciating the steps being taken by Kenya on affordable housing and urbanization, local politicians are busy fighting the same.
