Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again raised concerns over alleged surveillance by a specific vehicle that he claims has been shadowing him during his public engagements.

Taking to Facebook on Wednesday, Gachagua posted photos of a Mitsubishi vehicle with the registration number KCR 919U, alleging it followed him from Nairobi to Makueni.

The vocal politician expressed frustration at what he termed as misuse of public resources, calling on the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to redeploy its personnel and assets for more meaningful tasks.

This was after Gachagua on Wednesday accompanied by his wife Pastor Dorcas, joined mourners and the people of Kalawa Ward, Mbooni Constituency in Makueni County to condole the family of Bishop Dr. Francis Mulinge, the National Chairman of the United Clergy Alliance, on the loss of their matriarch Agness Mwikali Muiya.

“National Intelligence Service, please deploy this vehicle and this officer to do some useful work to enhance our security as a nation,” he wrote. “It was pointless to waste fuel and man-hours having him follow us all the way from Nairobi to Makueni yesterday.” he stated

Gachagua further suggested that local officers in Makueni could have been tasked with attending his event to gather the necessary information, instead of allocating resources for what he described as unnecessary surveillance.

“It would save public funds to detail your officers in Makueni to listen to what I’m saying, record, and send it to you, instead of wasting public funds,” he added.

The incident comes as Gachagua has been vocal in recent months about what he perceives as undue monitoring of his activities. While the NIS has yet to issue a response to these allegations, the claims have sparked a conversation online about accountability in the use of public funds.

This is the second alarm Gachagua is raising since he was ousted out of office. In November, he also claimed security agents in unmarked cars had been trailing him.

He at the same time expressed fears over his life telling Kenyans to hold the state responsible in case he is harmed.
