The Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, has been urged by religious leaders to seek reconciliation with President William Ruto amid increasing tension and talk of impeachment. The clergy, particularly from Kisii County under the Kisii County Clergy Forum, have called for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to take steps to mend his relationship with the President, citing that such actions would help lower the country’s rising political temperatures.

The religious leaders emphasized that the ongoing political standoff between the two leaders is detrimental to the nation. They warned that the impeachment efforts could further divide the country and urged leaders to approach the situation with sobriety. Speaking in Kisii and Nairobi, they implored Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to prioritize dialogue over confrontation, advising against escalating the situation through legal battles, which they said would only deepen the political rift.

With 291 MPs signing the impeachment motion, the situation has taken a serious turn. Public participation hearings are scheduled, allowing citizens to voice their opinions on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s removal. In Kisii, these hearings will take place at the Agricultural Training Centre, while in Nyeri, they are set for Friday at the Cultural Hall.
