36 year old, Kool Bush Alias AleluyaMourwelMamer has lived in Sudan later South Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya during his formative years and sounds of gunshots were the order of the day during his early livelihood.
Going by the stage name Kool Bush,Aleluya shifted to Ethiopia from Sudan during the civil war.
“We shifted to Ethiopia during the civil war in Sudan and later to Kenya after Ethiopia became unstable after the fall of government of Mengistu Haile Marian in 1991,”Observed Kool Bush.
Kool Bush was privileged to travel to Kakuma Refuge camp and were the pioneers of Kakuma refugee camp but his dad had to walk on foot from Pochala to re-unite with his children.
While still young and innocent the rocky musician remembers once trying to drown in River Nile while on a ship to Ethiopia
“My mother once told me to relive myself on the boat and I thought that one goes to the river and comes back to the boat and almost drowned but was saved on the nick of time,” cheekily added Kool Bush
“We were the pioneers of Kakuma refugee camp before the camp was overwhelmed with so many people and once in a while we would sneek and go and live in Kapenguria,” Remembers Kool Bush.
But his musical prowess was horned while attending school at St Mary Assumption primary school and at Kara’s primary school in Kapenguria where he participated in acting and music during school times.
It was during grade seven that Kool Bush became a darling of the school and would sing word by word Jose chameleon’s songs much to the amazement of his peers.
Later they would form a boy band with his cousins christened Coozos clan that had a some hits and collaboration with some of Kenya’s musicians.
He later took a musical hiatus and has made a major come back with two hit songs:YalaYa bit and Dombolo.
“Yalaya bit was envisioned while studying Piloting in South Africa and it basically is afro House music beat song that a war veteran (Anyanya 1) begs a curvy young lady not to break his old bones on the dance floor, “Observed Kool Bush.
It was also during the recording of Yalaya Bit that the producer played for me a beat of a song and told me that it had no owner and decided to freestyle. Later the producer added some few verses to the song less song.
“We just named it Dombolo since the song didn’t have a name and Dombolo was mentioned a lot christening the Congo beat,” Said Kool Bush.
So far Yalaya bit has been received well especially in Kenya and during a recent dance challenge 111 dance group managed to captivate the internet with great moves.
Dombolo was released in 2023 and is a love song with a love message.
“Soon I will shoot my music videos but the tracks are riding high on streaming platforms,” added Kool Bush.
