Blogger Francis Gaitho has made a response to the DCI after the agency issued a statement stating that they have launched a manhunt for him.
In a statement issued by DCI through their various social media handles, they said that they are looking for him due to several criminal activities linked to him.
The DCI stated that Gaitho has been charged for reportedly publishing false information and he absconded a court session.
“The suspect had been charged with the offence of publishing false information in violation of Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act (Case No. CR E738/24). He absconded a court session on December 4, 2024, which resulted in the issuance of a Warrant of Arrest by the Milimani Law Courts,” the DCI revealed.
The investigative agency added that the blogger is currently under investigation for sharing personal information of a senior public officer which is contrary to Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act against other Kenyan citizens.
Gaitho is also facing multiple courts of cyber harassment after he made post where he is claimed to have disparaged senior government officials.
In response to the statement by the DCI, Gaitho said that he will be presenting himself to the agency’s headquarters on Monday, January 7.
He also defended himself against the accusations of being labelled a criminal saying that he is not a capital offender and that he only tweets on X because he enjoys the freedom of expression enshrined in the constitution.
“I’m not a criminal. I’m not a murderer. I’m not a capital offender. I just tweet. Freedom of speech is a constitutional entitlement and I exercise it to the best of my ability. Other criminals are walking free out here but mine is political persecution because many of these cases have civil remedies,” he said.
