In 2022, after serving as Nairobi Regional Police Commander for one year, James Mugera bowed out of the service having attained mandatory retirement age of 60 years.
Mugera had succeeded Augustine Thumbi who he had deputized. His predecessor was forced out of the top police service under cloud of controversy following his alleged role in the bungled police operations at Mukuru slums.
Mugera had once served as the Kiambu County Police Commander. He had also served as Kilifi County police chief.
The exit of Thumbi proved to be a blessing in disguise for Mugera who assumed the role. He was at the heart of the capital city security during the 2022 general election.
But shortly after that election, Mugera retired from the service. His exit marked the end of the road for the seasoned cop who had served for close to four decades.
Mugera was first succeeded by Manasseh Musyoka, who was replaced by Adamson Bungei even before assuming the role.
One year later, the former police commander who was in the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police, has literally gone missing in action even as he enjoys his new life after serving the country for the better part of his life.
