Former Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu escaped death while his official driver perished when their vehicle collided with a tractor at Kavenge along Thika-Mwingi highway on Sunday night.
Mutambu was returning to Nairobi from the scene where the St. Joseph’s Seminary Mwingi bus plunged into the Enziu river.
Mutambu, who lost a number of relatives in the bus accident was on his way to Nairobi after the bus wreckage was retrieved from the river and the last of the dead bodies were recovered when his vehicle was involved in the accident and rolled several times.
His driver died on the spot.
Except for the driver who died, Mutambu and other occupants of the vehicle were rushed to Matuu level four hospital for treatment.
The body of his driver was taken to Mwingi level four hospital morgue.
The former MP had in the day joined fellow leaders from Kitui including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu who had camped at the scene of the school bus accident until the submerged bus was pulled out last evening.
