Nandi County senator Samson Cherargei has hit out at Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja over what he has termed as the dilapidated development of the city.

Taking to his official X account on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, Cherargei seemed not to have been satisfied with Kenya’s African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship candidate Raila Odinga’s move to endorse the leadership of Sakaja in Nairobi.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) lawmaker shared a photo of Sakaja having a conversation with Raila at the Bomas of Kenya during the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Women’s Chapter prayers event that was held on Monday, February 10, and claimed that the first-term city governor was kneeling down to seek some favours from the former Prime Minister.

Cherargei on neglected projects
Cherargei went ahead to list some of the key infrastructural projects that he says Sakaja should give a priority to make the Nairobi City County better.

Some of the key projects Cherargei says have been neglected by Sakaja are roads, garbage collection, and the health sector.

“If Sakaja was working hard to fix the dilapidated development in Nairobi City County like the way he is kneeling hard before Raila, then the city would be world-class, attract international investors, and make Nairobians happy, not a few!

“By fixing road potholes that are deeper than dimples, and using more than Omo & water to clean the entire city, not just CBD only; garbage collection is a disaster; avoid executive dismantling of businesses signage; poor health services in hospitals like Mbagathi, Mama Lucy, etc.; and stalled Dandora Stadium, then he will not need to kneel before anyone but only kneel before God almighty,” Cherargei stated.

Raila on Monday, February 10, endorsed the leadership of Governor Sakaja.

Speaking at the Bomas of Kenya during the interdenominational prayer service that was organized for him by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Women’s Chapter ahead of the AUC polls scheduled for Saturday, February 15, Raila endorsed Sakaja to take care of his political affairs in Nairobi in his absence.

The former Prime Minister referred to Sakaja as his son, noting that he wanted Nairobi to remain steadfast under the leadership of the first-term city governor as he heads to AUC.

“Nataka Nairobi ibaki imara, ndo huyu kijana wangu huyu ashikilie, afanye kazi sawa sawa,” Raila said as he pointed at Sakaja, who had joined the prayer event.
