Besieged Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza says she has been released even as police denied that they had arrested her early Wednesday afternoon.

The governor announced the release via her Facebook account after being ‘held’ for two hours.

“Finally, I’m free. I thank God I’m safe, OCS has apologised akasema sorry,” she said.

But the police insisted that they had not arrested the county boss.

An officer in charge had an argument with Mwangaza with the officer saying the governor got in the police van by herself.

But the governor insisted that she had been arrested.

“Why were you arresting me yet I told you I told you this is not an Okolea programme,” Mwangaza asked.

The officer who’s name could not be immediately established denied arresting her.

“You are the one who ordered me to get in the police van,” Mwangaza insisted.

Mwangaza demanded that the police officer apologises to her.

The officer apologised and but said Mwangaza was not arrested.
