Mary Lincoln, a popular Kikuyu gospel singer, has finally spoken out about the scandal that rocked her life in October 2023. The singer, who is married to veteran radio presenter Njogu wa Njoroge, was exposed online by a blogger who claimed to have her nude photos and videos.

The blogger, Martha Mwihaki Hinga, alleged that Mary was entertaining a man through a video call while exposing herself. She shared screenshots of the video call on social media, sparking outrage and criticism from netizens. The scandal tarnished Mary’s reputation as a gospel artist and a married woman. Mary remained silent about the scandal for weeks, even as her fans and fellow artists demanded an explanation. She was later seen kneeling in church for prayers, seeking divine intervention and forgiveness. Many people speculated that she was either guilty or ashamed of the scandal.

However, in an exclusive interview with Tuko.co.ke¹, Mary revealed that she was actually a victim of cyberbullying and blackmail. She said that the photos and videos were not hers, but were edited by someone who wanted to extort money from her. She said that she received a phone call from an unknown number, threatening to expose her if she did not pay Ksh 500,000. She ignored the call, thinking it was a prank. She was shocked when she saw the photos and videos circulating online. “I was devastated. I could not believe what I was seeing. I felt like my world had come to an end. I cried for days. I could not eat or sleep. I could not face my husband or my children. I felt like I had let them down,” she said.

She said that she contemplated suicide several times, as she could not bear the pain and humiliation. She said that she received hateful messages and calls from strangers, who insulted and mocked her. She said that some of her friends and relatives also abandoned her. “I felt like I had no reason to live. I thought of ending my life. I even wrote a suicide note. But God intervened. He spoke to me through His word and His servants. He reminded me of His love and mercy. He gave me hope and strength,” she said.

She said that she decided to speak out after receiving counselling and support from her husband, family, church and some of her loyal fans. She said that she wanted to clear her name and warn other people about the dangers of cyberbullying and blackmail. She said that she had reported the matter to the police and hoped that the culprits would be brought to justice. She also urged the public to stop spreading the photos and videos, as they were hurting her and her family.

She thanked God for saving her from suicide and restoring her peace and joy. She said that she had forgiven those who wronged her and prayed for them. She also asked for forgiveness from those who felt offended by the scandal. She said that she was determined to move on with her life and continue with her music career. She said that she had learned from the experience and grown stronger in her faith. “I am not perfect. I am human. I make mistakes. But I am also a child of God. He loves me unconditionally. He has forgiven me and given me a second chance. I am grateful for His grace and mercy,” she said.

She also expressed gratitude to her husband for standing by her during the difficult time. She said that he was supportive and understanding, despite the rumours that he had divorced her. “He is my best friend, my partner, my soulmate. He never doubted me or blamed me. He comforted me and encouraged me. He prayed with me and for me. He showed me true love,” she said.

She said that they were happy together and looking forward to celebrating their third anniversary in 2024. Mary Lincoln is one of the most successful Kikuyu gospel singers in Kenya, with several hits under her belt². She is also a mother of three children from a previous relationship. She married Njogu wa Njoroge in 2020 in a lavish ceremony attended by celebrities.
