Shakur, the police officer who was interdicted for his actions during the June 24th anti-government protests, has allegedly offered advice to his colleagues on handling Kenyans.

He was apprehended in Githurai after purportedly evading arrest multiple times. Speaking to Oga Obinna, he explained the frustrations (“hasira”) felt by cops and suggested that many officers share his views about the government’s actions.

“I can show you messages from over 1,000 fellow officers who feel the government isn’t doing the right thing,” he stated.

When asked why they don’t quit, he replied, “We can’t all quit; that would harm the country. I think the only solution is in 2027 when cops can vote. That’s when we can change things.”

“I’m a patriot, and I love this country dearly. All I want is the best for it,” he added, describing his ideal vision for future generations.

Regarding fellow officers using tear gas and live bullets on protestors, Shakur advised, “Just obey lawful orders. If you’re told to do something harmful, refuse. Like a cop whose brother was shot at Parliament; he said he’d quit. Police have the right to reject unlawful orders.”

Asked about their training with batons and their use, he confirmed, “Yes, but sometimes officers use excessive force, leading to bitterness and anger. You should follow lawful orders and have the right tools to refuse unlawful ones.”

Reflecting on his interdiction, he criticized the system, saying, “When you refuse, you’re mistreated. I advocated for what’s right and got punished. Remember the CBD incident? The person responsible is still employed.”

He also shared an incident where individuals in plain clothes attempted to abduct him. “When my pictures circulated online, unidentified people came looking for me, even asking motorcycle riders where I lived. I went into hiding and sought anticipatory bail to avoid being detained unlawfully.”

Responding to questions about his academic background, Shakur denied receiving a grade D in his KCSE exams. “No, I didn’t get a D. That’s too low a grade for someone in my position,” he clarified, choosing not to disclose his actual grade.
