Barely two weeks since his appointment as the new Nairobi Regional Police Commander, Manase Musyoka was replaced in a huff.
The veteran police officer who had served in Central Region in the same capacity for almost one year, was picked to succeed Nairobi’s James Mugera who had bowed out after attaining retirement age.
But in a sudden turn of events, even before Musyoka assumed office as the man in-charge of security in the capital city, it was announced by the new Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome that Turkana Central police commander had been appointed as Nairobi police chief.
Bungei would be thrown into the mess that is Nairobi, which in most cases is the epicentre of all political heat and the chaos associated with it. Since his appointment, he has become the face of police operations to handle the Raila Odinga-led opposition demonstrations against the President William Ruto adminstration. As for Musyoka, little has been heard from him since then.
And just like that, Musyoka’s dream of being in-charge of security in the country’s capital city went up in smokes. But what really became of him? No communication from the National Police Service on whether he was redeployed.
Musyoka had previously served as Migori County Police Commander before being moved to the Coast as Regional Police chief.
It was from the Coastal region that he was transferred to the Central Kenya region, where he became very instrumental in the fight against illicit brew menace in the region.
His failed move to the capital city was a big blow in his illustrious career as a police officer.
