Shortly after President William Ruto officially unveiled Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Chairmanship (AUC) at State House, the Azimio coalition has made a significant announcement. The declaration was led by key Azimio leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka, former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s top Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, MP Babu Owino, Jeremiah Kioni among others.

During a press briefing held after the event at State House, Kalonzo Musyoka announced that he is ready to take on the role of the official Leader of the Opposition. Kalonzo, who has long been a prominent figure in Kenyan politics, expressed his commitment to this new challenge with confidence.

“Yes, I am ready to be the Leader of the Official Opposition,” Kalonzo declared during the briefing. He emphasized that the opposition under his leadership, would be more active and visible than ever before. Kalonzo also highlighted the strength of the Azimio coalition outside of Parliament, pointing out their strong support among the Kenyan people.

“This is the team, you will see the Opposition like never before. We may be light in numbers in Parliament, but outside we have the People of Kenya,” Kalonzo stated, underscoring the importance of grassroots support in the opposition’s strategy.

The Azimio leaders’ declaration signifies a new chapter in Kenya’s political landscape, where the opposition is poised to play a more significant and assertive role.
