Last week comedian, Eric Omondi, made arguably his biggest political statement ever, announcing his support for Jimi Wanjigi’s presidential campaign.
In a recent interview I had with him I asked him what had motivated him to choose the wealthy businessman? Had it been the potential money he would get as a brand endorser?
“Initially, there was no financial motive, but now the job I have been given will require millions upon millions of shillings to achieve. I will have to go to all the 47 counties and sell the agenda.”
He explained that he had gone through Jimmy’s political agenda and had been convinced by what he had seen. I will sell his agenda and his manifesto because he has the same vision I do.
“I met Jimmy the other day, on Monday to be exact. He had seen my campaign, he then called me and shared his policies and his manifestos. We sat down and agreed that from now henceforth I will be his mouthpiece.”
He said the biggest reason he was supporting Mr. Wanjigi was that they shared the same ideals,
“Us we are tired. You know people haven’t been following the campaign. The idea is that we don’t want anyone who has been in office to be associated with the campaign, whether you have been there for 30 years or 5 years.”
Finishing that he and Mr. Wanjigi wanted a root to branches removal of all the politicians currently in office,
“We want to clear out the entire parliament, the entire statehouse, the entire senate. We want to ensure that in 2020, everyone that gets into office is a fresh face.”
