There is something to smile about for the family of Violet Olinga whose body had been lying at the Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary for months.
This is after renowned comedian Eric Omondi offered to clear the mortuary bill of KSh 130,000. The family’s breakthrough came after media shared their heartbreaking story and desperate plea for help.
Violet died in August 2023, a day after giving birth to a baby boy who survived and was recently given to the family. After months of searching, the family learned through Facebook that their kin had been lying unclaimed at KNH. On one hand, their search for the missing girl had ended, but on the other, they were unable to raise the funds required to secure her body.
The situation had caused immense distress to the family, who were already struggling to come to terms with their daughter’s demise. Upon hearing about the family’s plight, Eric Omondi stepped in to settle the outstanding bill, allowing the family to finally lay their loved one to rest.
