Detectives are still investigating the murder of popular Ohangla dancer Sheila Odoyo, known by her stage name Sheila Wegesha, after her body was discovered in her house in Athi River, Machakos County.
Hundreds of people turned up for a candlelight vigil in memory of Sheila Wegesha, who is alleged to have been murdered by her husband.
It is suspected that Sheila, aged 38, was killed on Thursday morning before her body was found in bed hours later in the Hill View estate.
A businesswoman, Sheila is believed to have been stabbed to death by her husband, Jack Bamboo, who is still missing.
Police reported that her 18-year-old daughter stumbled upon her lifeless body in bed before raising an alarm.
In an event on Wednesday, May 22, at Egesa Villa, Ohangla artists and their fans turned out in large numbers to honour the late dancer.
The body which was discovered at about 1 pm Thursday, May 9 lay with a pool of blood caked around it indicating she had died more than four hours earlier.
The much-publicised event was organised by Wegesha’s close friends and his family in the first marriage.
Her husband and teenage daughter were also in hand to light the candle as the charged revellers watched on while others wailed in sorrow.The event also doubled as a fundraiser for the dancer’s burial, which was set for Tuesday, May 28, at Nyalkinyi Village, Kanyada, in Homa Bay.
He is said to have left the house past midnight on Wednesday without saying anything to the other family members who were present.He left in his car, the daughter said.The detectives said they wanted to have a conversation with the man over the issue.
