Shortly after visiting former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua at Karen Hospital in Nairobi on Thursday, former member of parliament for Bahati, Kimani Ngunjiri, broke down in tears. The former MP found it difficult to control his emotions as he voiced his disapproval of the Senate’s choice to move forward with the impeachment resolution even though Gachagua was not present.
Ngunjiri criticised President William Ruto, saying he was responsible for the impeachment of the deputy president. The lawmaker went on to accuse the executive and the house of disregarding Gachagua’s health.
“They can take all he owns, but his health should come first. May God continue to keep Gachagua well and safe. You have his heart; please assist us. There’s not much I can say at the moment. We now turn everything over to God.
After seeing the deputy president, Ngunjuri stated, “We will see him tomorrow,” outside the Karen Hospital.
Legislator Gathoni Wamuchomba of Githunguri, who also looked distraught when speaking to the media outside the hospital, expressed similar feelings.Wamuchomba asked the government to spare DP Gachagua more suffering and to leave him alone, even as she voiced her displeasure with the impeachment.
Wamuchomba criticised the government for unnecessarily bothering the former deputy president on a regular basis.
She was confident, nevertheless, that Gachagua would soon recover and be discharged from the hospital.
“Gachagua will eventually leave the hospital. We are praying for him. If you are so interested in the deputy president’s seat you can keep it. He has not occupied that position for long. But leave him alone and the little he has at his age,” Wamuchomba stated tearfully.
