Women came out to allege that after meeting Matara on a popular dating site, he would invite them to Airbnbs, where he would sexually assault them, brutally beat and torture them for hours and leaving them traumatised.
Margaret Wanyama, who hit the headlines a few years back for allegedly having an affair with a married gospel DJ, shared screenshots of messages claiming they belonged to Matara.
In the chats, which were between May 24 and September 23, 2023, the man tried to get Margaret’s attention, but she did not respond to any.
“Hello, Margy tunaweza (can we) mingle? Can I have your number?” read one of the messages.
Sharing the screenshot of Matara’s alleged DMs, the Kenyan woman said she was glad she ignored him.
“Imagine he even chatted me. Good thing I ignored his messages,” the lady captioned a screenshot of the messages.
Eddie Butita says John Matara, a staunch SDA follower, attended Butere Boys’ High School and his schoolmate.
Eddie Butita shared more details about him. “Alikuwa msee ametulia. Alikuwa na ngoma ya reggae.
Alikuwa mbogi ya Kisii (He was a calm guy. He had some reggae music playing. He was in among the Kisii brigade). Alikuwa (he was part of the) cheering squad.”
Butita also revealed that male chauvinist Amerix schooled at Butere Boys’ and used to teach drama before he was transferred to a sister school, Butere Girls High School.
“He was so reserved. I don’t know who hurt him.” The comedian said the school had strict teachers, and they (students) were hardened by the tough school life.

The suspect was traced to Mbagathi Hospital, where he had sought treatment for injuries allegedly sustained during a confrontation with Wahu.
Matara was once a promising musician who released five reggae songs on YouTube. Several women came out to expose Matara, narrating their horrifying experience at the hands of Matara.
Neighbours ganged up and forced the landlord to evict him after cases of violence against the women he brought home became unbearable.
