A dramatic scene unfolded on Friday afternoon at Githurai roundabout after residents came out to openly reject president William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

This happened during a promotional show that was being led by Kameme FM presenters and a group of Kikuyu musicians. The influencers were promoting a certain brand of corn flour.

It all started when Kameme FM radio host, Muthoni Kirumba, invited the area MCA to address the locals. The crowd turned rebellious and refused to be addressed by the MCA. They demanded to be entertained by Mugithi maestro, Waithaka wa Jane, claiming to be tired of politics. (Video from 1hr 24min).

This incident prompted the radio host to take back the microphone and inquired what was wrong with the MCA. The crowd shouted that the area MCA had failed them by not keeping his campaign promises.

Muthoni Kirumba went ahead and asked the locals if they were happy by the way the Ruto administration is running the country. They unanimously responded saying that the two leaders had failed.

The atmosphere became even more rebellious when the radio presenter asked the crowd if she should send greetings to the deputy president, Gachagua. The locals rejected.

“Should I greet Gachagua and Ruto when I go back?” Questioned Muthoni. (Video from 1hr 25min).

“No, no!” The angry crowd responded.

The crowd claimed that all the Kenya Kwanza leaders from MCAs to the president had disappointed them by failing to fulfill their campaign promises. They cited the high cost of living as the major reason for their opposition to the current regime.

The locals also sent Muthoni Kirumba with a message to Kimani Ichung’wa and Ndindi Nyoro, wanting them to know that the ground is not happy. Githurai is in Kiambu county where president William Ruto got high number of votes.

Githurai residents went ahead to cheer that they missed the retired president Uhuru Kenyatta. Given that the former Head of State celebrated his birthday on Thursday 26th, the locals went ahead to sing a birthday song for him.

After this moment of high political temperatures, the UDA MCA left the event without addressing the crowd. Entertainment from Mugithi artists then took center stage.
