A man’s return to his hometown after running away with a maid has caused quite the commotion in the community, raising questions about love, loyalty, and money.

In early June 2024, Samson Waithaka left his wife, Tabitha Wangari, after he received a Ksh 170,000 bonus from his tea farming job. He left for Nairobi with a woman named Shiku, who works as a barmaid.

According to Wangari, her husband was attracted to Shiku’s youth and beauty. “He left because of that barmaid, thinking they would have fun in Nairobi,” Wangari said.

However, Waithaka claims that Shiku used charms to convince him to give her money. “During bonus time, Shiku started showing me affection. She did things for me that my wife never did,” Waithaka explained. He recalled how Shiku would touch his head and feet, making him feel special and loved.

The couple rented a small one-bedroom apartment in the Kasarani area of Nairobi, where Waithaka hoped they could start a new life together.

But things took a turn for the worse when their money ran out. Waithaka says that Shiku kicked him out of their home when they could no longer afford to live together. Soon after, she moved in with another man, leaving him with nothing.

When Waithaka returned to Kiriaini, he tried to convince Wangari to take him back. Unfortunately for him, Wangari had already moved on.

“I am now married to someone else,” she told him, suggesting that he should go back to Nairobi to be with Shiku. “It’s just too late now,” Waithaka cried, expressing his regret about the situation.

His return home has drawn attention from the local community, sparking discussions about trust, the effect of money on relationships, and the troubles that come with romantic affairs.

Many people in Kiriaini are curious about what will happen next, especially since Waithaka has been unable to reach Shiku for her side of the story.
