The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Tuesday, October 3, witnessed a significant interception by vigilant detectives from the DCI Anti-Narcotics Unit
According to a report by DCI, over 1kg of methamphetamine, a potent and dangerous narcotic, was discovered concealed within bicycle saddles.
This breakthrough came as a consignment bound for Jakarta, Indonesia, raised suspicion during routine checks.
The estimated value of the seized drug is over Sh9 million, hidden ingeniously among items declared as bicycle accessories in a shipment from Moroni, Comoros.
The operation unfolded as keen-eyed detectives, specializing in immigration crime and cargo security, assembled at the DHL shed for a verification exercise.
Here, they uncovered brown packages containing a white crystalline substance stashed within eleven saddles.
Subsequent testing confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine, an illicit and highly regulated substance.
In response to this interception, Interpol operations have been set in motion to unmask the individuals responsible for this illicit trade.
Efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking have been amplified, with the DCI emphasizing that Kenyan soil will remain an inhospitable terrain for perpetrators, regardless of their status or influence.
This successful operation highlights the unwavering dedication of Kenyan law enforcement in the fight against drug-related crimes.
It serves as a stark warning to those involved in the illegal narcotics trade that their activities will not go unnoticed or unpunished.
The interception not only safeguards public safety but also reinforces Kenya’s commitment to international efforts in curbing the global drug trade.
This latest achievement by the DCI Anti-Narcotics Unit underscores the critical role played by law enforcement agencies in maintaining the security and integrity of the nation’s borders.
