During a TV interview this morning, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba raised serious concerns about the ongoing treatment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, revealing that several key privileges, including his VIP security escorts, have been stripped following a reported fallout with President William Ruto.
Wamuchomba used the platform to highlight how the Deputy President, who is constitutionally entitled to these protections, had recently appeared in public without the usual security detail. Notably, during a church event, Gachagua was seen without the VIP escorts that are typically part of the presidential motorcade, prompting widespread speculation about his current standing within the government.
âI spent the entire day with the Deputy President yesterday, and he had no security officers with him. Itâs alarming to see this happening to someone in such a high office,â Wamuchomba told the interviewer. She urged President Ruto to reinstate the Deputy Presidentâs security detail and other privileges, emphasizing that Gachagua’s current predicament was tantamount to public humiliation.
In a striking part of the interview, Wamuchomba reminded the President of the promise he made during their campaignâthat Gachagua would not suffer the same fate as Ruto had under the previous regime, where the then-Deputy President was sidelined by his boss. âThe President needs to be a man of his word. He assured his deputy that he wouldnât face this kind of treatment, yet here we are,â she stated.
