The Senate on Thursday morning resumed sittings to continue listening to the impeachment hearings against DP Rigathi Gachagua which entered day two.

Today, the defence team representing Gachagua is expected to make its case, to convince the senators of his innocence of the charges against him.

At the end of the proceedings, the senators will have a closed session to discuss the motion and the 11 charges. Later on, they will vote on the individual charges, and if any of them is upheld, the DP will stand impeached.

If neither of the charges is upheld, the motion falls and the deputy president continues to hold office.

On day one of the proceedings, the National Assembly presented its case and two witnesses who went through the evidence presented to support the case. The defence also had its time to deconstruct the charges during cross examination.

The witnesses grilled on Wednesday were the mover of the motion, Mwingi West MP Mwengi Mutuse and former acting KEMSA CEO Andrew Mulwa.
