HBO has released the first trailer for its upcoming documentary on Tina Turner, Tina, set to premiere March 27th.
The trailer is centered around a snippet from a new interview Turner gave for the film, in which she tells a story about her mother, who ran off when Turner was still a child. Turner recalled simply watching her mother through the window as she cooked ā€” ā€œI thought she was so prettyā€ ā€” until one day, her mother was no longer there.
Against a triumphant montage of archival clips and a booming rendition of ā€œProud Mary,ā€ Turner continues, ā€œI wanted her to come for me, and I waited. She never did. And itā€™s alright, you know why? Iā€™m a girl from a cotton field that pulled myself above the destruction and the mistakes, and Iā€™m here for you.ā€

Back in October 2018, Tina revealed that in her second memoir her many health scares of the last few years ā€” which include everything from vertigo to cancer to a kidney transplant ā€” as well as her successful, late-arriving romance with husband, and music executive, Erwin Bach, a man 17 years her junior.
Turner also unpacked other painful memories, writing about being raised by a mother who didnā€™t want her, and the suicide of her eldest son, Craig.
