Detectives have revealed that they arrested Michael Macharia Njiiri alias DJ Brownskin for aiding his 24 year old wife Sharon Njeri in committing suicide.
The DJ had been on the run since the news of him recording his wife as she ingested poison emerged on social media earlier this year. The news evoked mixed reactions among Kenyans.
The DJ was arrested at a local club on Madaraka day. The prosecution side said there was a risk of him flying out of the country since he had been on the run even after being summoned by the DCI.
In the video that went viral on social media platforms, the DJ could be heard saying ‘mix them gather them” to his seemingly depressed wife who was mixing poison in a yellow cup. After she collapsed on the sofa while groaning in pain, he continued recording her while ordering their shocked nanny to give her some milk.
He is alleged to have rushed Njeri to hospital minutes later after the nanny and her son screamed thus attracting the attention of neighbours.
According to details recorded by DCI Kasarani on his personal information, the DJ is 31 years old (born 30th January 1992)
Following the emergence of the viral video, Njeri’s parents expressed their shock given that they thought the couple was in good terms. Recently, Njeri’s father took her two kids from the DJ. He said he had left everything to God but couldn’t trust him to take care of his grandchildren.
Brownskin will be held for 7 days pending investigations into the death. The 7 days will be used to collect evidence that is believed to be scattered around.
He will be used to help investigators in reconstructing the crime scene and also collecting any evidence from the house. The DCI officer leading investigations had requested that the DJ be held for 14 days but his lawyer Mr Elisha Ndemo objected claiming that he was not a flight risk.
Mr Ndemo also denied allegations that his client had been summoned by the DCI. The case was scheduled to be heard on June 9.
