Police in Kitui County are investigating the tragic death of a 36-year-old Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) who was found dead inside his rented house at Nzeluni Centre in Mwingi West Sub-County.
The shocking incident has left residents, colleagues, and local leaders in deep shock, with early police reports indicating that the death is suspected to be a suicide.
The deceased has been identified as Mr. Josphat Kiok, who was serving as the Assistant County Commissioner for Nzeluni Division.
According to police reports recorded in the Occurrence Book (OB), the incident came to light after the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) for Migwani Sub-County, Madam Rukia Chitech, became concerned when she failed to reach Mr. Kiok on his mobile phone for a long time.
Sources say it was unusual for the administrator to be unreachable, especially during working hours.
After raising the alarm, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Nzeluni, accompanied by the Area Chief for Nzeluni Location, Madam Grace Musanza, rushed to Mr. Kiok’s rented house located within Nzeluni Centre.
Upon arrival, the officers found the house door unlocked from the inside, raising fears that something was wrong.
The officers gained entry into the house and found Mr. Kiok lying dead inside.
Police immediately secured the scene and began preliminary investigations.
Early findings suggested that the administrator may have taken his own life.
During the process of examining the house, officers reportedly found a suicide note lying on the ground.
The note is said to have contained disturbing messages, though police have not disclosed its full contents to the public as investigations continue.
The discovery of the note strengthened suspicions that the death may have been self-inflicted.
However, police have emphasized that all possible angles are being considered to rule out any foul play.
The scene later attracted senior government officials, including the Deputy County Commissioner for Migwani Sub-County, officers from Nzeluni Police Station, and other local administrators.
After the scene was fully processed, the body of Mr. Kiok was removed and taken to a mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Police say the autopsy will help confirm the cause of death and provide more clarity on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The death of Mr. Kiok has deeply affected the local community and public service fraternity in Kitui County. Residents described him as a dedicated administrator who carried out his duties diligently.
