Mass protests by followers of the opposition Azimio La Umoja movement in Nyandarua county have started today.

Supporters gathered in large numbers in the city’s streets to demonstrate against the Kenya Kwanza government’s high cost of living.

The opposition’s supporters lamented the high cost of living despite the government’s repeated promises to address the problem, led by Dickson Manyara, coordinator of the Azimio movement in Nyandarua county.

Insisting that police personnel provide protection for all demonstrators, Dickson Manyara claimed that the scheduled county demonstrations will be peaceful.

According to KTN News, “Azimio supporters in Nyandarua county have heeded the call of mass action to protest against the Kenya Kwanza government.

One of the key opposition leaders and national secretary general of the Jubilee Party, Jeremiah Kioni, is from the county of Nyandarua.

In the August 2016 general election, Jeremiah Kioni ran for reelection to the Ndaragwa parliamentary seat under the Jubilee party banner.
