A Nairobi court has sentenced a man to death after finding him guilty of killing two people during a robbery incident.
Francis Ochieng Edgar is said to have committed the crime in 2014 along Thika Road.
Edgar had been charged alongside Peter Njoroge Wamiatha.
Njoroge was however jailed for three years, since he was found with some of the stolen items, including a radio cassette.
The prosecution’s witnesses during trial told the court that the two boarded a matatu from Ronald Ngala and when they reached Homeland area, they ordered passengers to surrender their valuables and lie on floor.
The court was told that the accused commandeered the matatu and sped off before forcibly throwing out some passengers from the moving mathree.
Cops are said to have gotten wind of the robbery and tracked the robbers.
Ochieng’ was later arrested and identified positively after he was found in possession of one of the victims’ phone, while Njoroge was found with stolen property.
The judgement read in part:
“This was a gruesome robbery; the victim was a driver who was stabbed to death. In a bid to avoid the police, the robbers threw passengers out of the speeding vehicle. These robbers had no regard for life. The first accused is sentenced to death. The second accused still need time in jail and is sentenced to three years having considered the four years he had spent in custody”
