News hitting the airwaves this hour indicate that the high court of Kenya has stopped the implementation of the 2023/24 finance bill, until a case filed before it is concluded.

The court has made this ruling after Busia senator, Okiya Omtatah, and five other Kenyans moved to court seeking to stop the implementation of the bill. This decision is a major blow to president William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza government.

Reacting after this ruling, Okiya Omtatah has appreciated the high court for what he termed as defending the people of Kenya.

Through a call to NTV on Friday afternoon, Omtatah stated that the finance bill contains many illegalities and therefore the court’s decision did not come as a shock to him.

“This finance bill is dead. It is dead on arrival. There were so many legal loopholes and I’m very sure that it’s implementation will be stopped. I appreciate the court’s decision but again, it is not a big surprise to me,” Omtatah told NTV. (Watch video from 4 min).

This court ruling comes at a time when the Azimio coalition has announced return of nationwide demonstrations starting from July 7th. The opposition is against the finance bill.
