Detectives investigating the gruesome murder of Gilbert Kinyua at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) have made a breakthrough after identifying and arresting the prime suspect linked to the crime.

The suspect, previously a patient in KNH Male Ward B, had been discharged but continued to stay at the facility due to personal circumstances.Reports indicate he had been undergoing treatment for diabetes and convulsions, but his caretakers allegedly refused to take him home after his discharge.

Authorities say his extended stay raised suspicion, prompting detectives to scrutinise his movements leading up to Kinyua’s murder on February 7.

After weeks of investigation, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended the suspect, submitting his fingerprints to the National Registration Bureau for verification.

Dr. Sigilai confirmed that the suspect is now in custody as detectives conduct further interrogations.

Earlier, the National Assembly Health Committee had expressed concern over security lapses at KNH, noting that despite the presence of a police station within the hospital, screening measures at ward entry points remained inadequate.

Lawmakers warned that these weaknesses could have allowed unauthorised individuals to roam freely inside the facility.

Investigators are now analyzing forensic evidence and witness testimonies to determine whether the suspect acted alone or if other individuals were involved in the crime.

Meanwhile, hospital officials have pledged full cooperation with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served for Kinyua’s family.

As the probe deepens, detectives remain focused on unearthing the truth behind the chilling murder that left the nation in shock.
