If you are a musician with a loyal fandom, you can make a fortune by asking your fans to send you money.
This is exactly what Nigerian singer Davido did and managed to raise 140 million naira (Sh38 million) in hours.
Born David Adedeji Adeleke, the award-winning singer took to Twitter and wrote, “If u know I’ve given you a hit song … send me money.” He created a new bank account and sent the number to his fans.
In less than 10 minutes, money started hitting his account, and he kept on updating his bank account status on Twitter.
The singer received money from other celebrities, including Adekunle Gold, Mr Eazi, Zlatan, Cubana Chief Priest and Chike.
The 28-year-old singer surpassed his initial goal, he had earlier said he needed 100 million naira (Sh27million) to clear the bill for his Rolls Royce currently at the port.
His strategy worked, and the Dami Duro hitmaker is now a couple of million richer than he woke up yesterday, only three days to his birthday.
Despite achieving his goals, Davido’s actions divided his fanbase, some who were not impressed that he asked money from his fans, yet he is richer than them.
Following Davido’s success, other musicians, including Don Jazzy and Teni, took to Instagram and asked friends and fans to send them money ahead of their birthdays.
