After Agnes Tirop’s lifeless body was discovered in her bedroom lying in a pool of blood, her husband, Ibrahim Rotich, was nowhere to be found.
He is the prime suspect in snuffing out the life of the 2015 Cross Country Champion at her home in Iten on Wednesday.
Yesterday night, Rotich was arrested after he was involved in a car accident. According to detectives at DCI, Rotich was speed racing when he rammed into the back of a lorry at Mlolongo, along Mombasa road.
Apparently, he was racing to get away from the police dragnet set up to capture him.
“The suspect is currently being grilled by detectives at Changamwe police station for more details into the murder, before being arraigned in court to answer to murder charges,” DCI detectives said in a statement.
Tirop, 25, was part of the triumphant team that represented Kenya in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics; where she represented the country in the 5,000m race and finished fourth in the finals.
