NewsNation host Dan Abrams signed off for the last time on his show, Thursday and said goodbye to both his viewers and fellow host Ashleigh Banfield.

“So this is my final episode of Dan Abrams Live here on NewsNation,” announced Abrams, who also founded Mediaite, at the end of his show:

As I explained, when I made the announcement in December, as much as I love this show and the mission of this network, I just can’t continue to give this show the attention it needs and deserves with all of my other professional commitments. But I don’t wanna get too nostalgic or sappy because this is definitely not goodbye. In fact, it’s not even goodbye from NewsNation. I’m working with them on possible weekly show concept, but regardless if that works out, I intend to still be a part of the NewsNation family.

After thanking his team and wishing them luck in their next roles, Abrams continued:

I will miss this show. I’ll miss chatting on-air with my old pal Chris Cuomo, who’s doing such a smart, interesting show every night. And starting on Monday, it will be Leland Vittert here at 9pm, and I am wishing him all the best of luck, but he won’t need luck. Most importantly, thanks to all of you for watching and engaging with us. Your comments and feedback always helped guide the direction of the show. Your desire for fair analysis helped motivate us, and even if you didn’t always agree, you knew that I wasn’t cheerleading for one side or the other and you knew we always wanted to hear the other side.

As he saluted his viewers and handed over to Banfield, she mocked, “Oh sorry, are you still here? Is he still here?”

“I will tell you this, every night I have a giant glass of root beer on my desk,” Banfield continued. “And tonight, I changed it to a wine glass so that I could toast you.”

The NewsNation host then revealed to viewers that 25 years prior, she and Abrams “went on a date.”

“A couple!” Abrams protested.

“Well, I think two. That’s a couple,” she went on. “And into it we both realized like yeah, no sparks here, but really, really great friendship that has endured for 25 years.”

Abrams replied, “Well thank you Ashley, I really appreciate it,” before adding, “But don’t minimize those dates we had. They were great!”

“Is he still on? Cut his mic!” Banfield concluded.
