Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka attended the launch of Martha Karua’s People’s Liberation Party (PLP), alongside Eugene Wamalwa and Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leaders. The event marked a significant step in their efforts to form a strong political alliance ahead of the 2027 general election to challenge President William Ruto’s administration.

Karua, Gachagua, Kalonzo, and Wamalwa have been holding meetings to consolidate their support, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region, where Gachagua has been actively mobilizing. Their goal is to unite opposition leaders and advocate for change.

Speaking on February 26, 2025, Karua stated that her reconciliation with Gachagua is a strategic move to unite leaders who believe Kenya needs to be freed from what she termed as the Kenya Kwanza regime’s chokehold. She emphasized that while political differences existed in the past, the current focus is on rescuing Kenyans from economic hardships.

Karua added that while the coalition is still forming, collaboration among opposition leaders is inevitable. She affirmed that working together is necessary to offer an alternative to Ruto’s leadership in 2027.
