The Ministry of Interior has addressed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s recent allegations that the government is intentionally distributing illicit alcohol in the Mt. Kenya region.
Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo described these claims as politically motivated and lacking evidence.
Omollo emphasised that the government neither produces nor sells alcoholic beverages.
He expressed concern over the trivialisation of serious national issues, especially when discussed without sensitivity to affected families.
He also challenged Gachagua to present any evidence to the appropriate authorities.

He cited recent deaths linked to illicit alcohol consumption as evidence of this alleged scheme.
In response, Omollo called on parents to protect their children from harmful substances, particularly during the festive season.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to combating substance abuse and safeguarding citizens’ well-being.
The exchange highlights ongoing tensions between Gachagua and the current administration, particularly concerning the fight against illicit alcohol in the Mt. Kenya region.
