President William Ruto is being urged by elders in the Mount Kenya area to counsel Secretary General of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Hassan Omar to cease his unceasing attacks on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Mr. Omar has accused Mr. Gachagua twice in the last two weeks, upsetting Wachira Kago, the chairman of the Agikuyu Community Elders’ Council, and former regional commissioner Joseph Kaguthi.

Omar’s charges against Gachagua have infuriated other people as well, such as Lawi Imathiu, the chairman of Gema, and Kung’u Muigai, the national patron of the “Kiama Kia Ma” council.

Mr. Gachagua was not present when President William Ruto met with several lawmakers from the Mount Kenya region; Mr. Omar has chastised the Deputy President’s backers for this.

The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) delegate for Kenya contended that the Deputy President is not the “keyholder to Mount Kenya.”

“The President is free to meet with any leader he choose. The notion that the President needs to get their consent before meeting with leaders from Mount Kenya should not be spread. Mr. Omar declared, “Kenya has one President, not two.”

Mr. Omar attacked Gachagua once more, calling him a leader who was “lacking inclusivity and acting like the king of Mount Kenya.”

Elders from Mount Kenya, however, have harshly criticized the UDA Secretary General for showing disdain for Mr. Gachagua, the national deputy head of the party.

They also remember that in 2013, Mr. Omar played a significant role in opposing Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta’s attempt to succeed the late Mwai Kibaki.
