The World Bank’s assistance in Kenya supports the government’s Vision 2030 development plan, which aims to manage resource constraints, promote sustainable growth, and reduce inequality.
In terms of global bank projects, Kakamega County is the most populated and effective county in Kenya. It is in Western Kenya, 30 kilometres north of the equator. Its 1,867,579 residents are distributed among nine sub-counties, including Lugari, Butere, Matungu, Lugari, and Malava. The Luhya are the primary locals. The county is governed by Kakamega Town. A total of 3,224.9 square kilometres make up the county. It is a short distance from the counties of Bungoma, Vihiga, and Busia. The goals of World Bank initiatives in the county of Kakamega include;
- Building high mast streetlights and floodlights.
Through the Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP), the World Bank has provided funding for the installation of high mast flood lights in market squares, rural regions, and the entire town.This development program has increased business and the whole economy of Kakamega town. It has played a significant part in providing security inside market hubs, expanding metropolitan regions, and the town as a whole.
- Providing everyone with access to clean water.
The World Bank encourages long-term water investments and supports funding for universal access to clean water and sanitary facilities.
The county government has started water projects in the county for appropriate water provision for the population through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. This has been accomplished through the World Bank-financed building of water stations, rooftop water harvesting systems, and boreholes, among other methods.
- Improving Kakamega town’s streets and the highways in the countryside.
Road construction infrastructure has been started in Kakamega’s rural parts and Kakamega town under the Kenya Urban Support Program. The community has closed drainage constructed by Cabro, and the entire town has been landscaped.
