Police are conducting an investigation into an incident where a businessman was allegedly attacked by gangsters and had his licensed firearm and Sh570,000 in cash stolen.
According to police reports, the incident took place along the Nairobi – Mombasa highway in the Maanzoni area on Christmas Day at approximately 7:00 PM.
This was reported to the Kyumbi police station as a robbery involving violence.
The victim, who runs a gas refilling plant in Kyumbi, Machakos county, informed the police that he was en route home from his business when the robbers attacked.
Police stated that the victim had just exited his gas plant after conducting an inspection when his vehicle was cornered and attacked.
According to the victim, a man armed with a firearm appeared and assaulted him, reportedly aiming the weapon at him.
The assailant then forcibly opened the driver’s door of the victim’s car, overpowering him and fled with the victim’s Glock 19 pistol and an envelope containing Sh570,000.
However, the victim later found his gun’s magazine, which was loaded with 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition, after it fell to the ground during the struggle between him and the suspect.
