A celebrated citizen TV news anchor Yvonne Okwara has yet again amazed Kenyans especially the deputy Secretary General of KMPDU Dr Dennis Miskellah after her argument on doctors’ strike stood exceptionally tall during News Gang programme on Citizen TV. During the programme, Yvonne broke down to Kenyans how the government has misplaced priorities.
In her statements, Yvonne questioned government’s honesty after refusing totally to implement doctors 2017 CBA especially on pay of intern doctors yet parliament is working on validation of CAS positions that court termed illegal. According to Okwara, government has failed to pay intern doctors the Sh206,000 as per the CBA due to huge wage bill, financial constraints and on the other hand, the same government is struggling to get back CAS positions which will consume more with little impact. According to approvals by the country’s SRC, each CAS would be paid Sh780,000, surpassing even the amount MPs earn per month.
In addition, annual Sh10 million for in patient medical cover is entitled to them, 300,000 for out patient, Sh75,000 for maternity, Sh150,000 for dental and Sh75,000 for optical cover.
Working with the 50 CASs appointed by the President, the amount is too huge. Is this how we should live within our means? Yvonne wondered.
